Your wedding day should be nothing short of magical

This was a little jewel of a find. Tucked away on South Street in Durham. Street parking cost approx 6 pounds for 23 hours. 5 mins walk to City Centre. Breakfast included in price, cater for vegetarians. King size large room, bed, bath tub & shower, all clean & top quality. Amazing views of the cathedral and castle, all accessible within ten min walk. Great cocktails available in a small bar area with an atrium area to enjoy the night air. Water and treats available in the room, including a decanter of whiskey to enjoy a night cap. The fabric of the refurbished house is indulgent. George and the staff very friendly and helpful. Cracking experience. Thank you.

This is a great place to stay, but we especially loved the staff: George, Daisy and Ellie. Thank you again for making us feel so welcome! The hotel is very luxurious and clean. The interiors of the rooms and general areas look like the inside of a design magazine!

The room was beautiful, with excellent toiletries. The property is very well-kept and elegantly furnished with very pleasant common areas in a refined environment. The center of Durham is a few minutes walk away and it was not difficult to park on the street of the hotel.

We stayed here on our way up to Edinburgh for one night, George the hotel manager was helpful, welcoming and friendly. We booked the room with the bathtub in the room, it was great! The pictures don’t do it justice – the view of the cathedral at sunrise is insane. Loved the quirkiness of this hotel, the rooms are done to such a high standard and was so big. Breakfast was included and George cooked us a lovely meal in the morning. Parking is easy on the metre outside and it’s close to everything. Would recommend this every time and would love to come back!

40 Winks is an outstanding hospitality experience offering boutique bed and breakfast in sumptuous surroundings in the historic Durham city. The service from George , Daisy and team was excellent. The staff are super friendly and go above and beyond to create an exciting and memorable experience. The accommodation is top end with high attention to luxurious touches, exceptional comfort and elegant design. The new, very comfortable bar had just opened when we stayed and the cosy woodburner made our cocktail evenings very special.
40 Winks has stunning views overlooking the Cathedral, situated on the elevated historic road above the river. We were able to walk quickly down into the city. It’s a perfect location for a relaxing city break.

40 winks is certainly what we had here. Not often attainable in most B&Bs and small hotels. If you wish to visit Durham and choose a place to stay this is the hotel. Great staff, food, ambiance, and after a great nights sleep in possibly the most comfortable bed ive slept in, you open those curtains to the most wonderful site of the Cathedral. A wonderful experience and credit to the staff.

Very well presented guesthouse with lots of character.
Close proximity to the centre of Durham City and beautiful views from the property. Tesla Wifi is a bonus. I would highly recommend a stay here!

Made our wedding anniversary perfect. Felt opulent and elegant. Staff were polite, friendly, welcoming, and attentive to every need. Room was beautiful and clean. Satellite Internet reliable. Bed was incredibly comfortable. Molton Brown toiletries were heaven. Excellent breakfast menu, all freshly prepared and absolutely delicious. We’ll definitely be booking another stay.

Superbly located quirky guesthouse, beautifully appointed bedroom and ensuite bathroom. The sitting room and breakfast room were similarly beautiful. The staff were excellent in every way from carrying our heavy bags to the top floor where our room overlooked the cathedral to getting an uber and negotiating the difficulties of the completely blocked one way road.

Perfect location, very close to the city centre and access to the cathedral via the beautiful Prebends Bridge. Room was lovely, stylish and very comfortable and plenty of space. After reading other reviews I expected it to be smaller! Breakfast was great with plenty of choice. We stayed 3 nights, would have happily spent a week there.

The hotel is beautiful and elegant. Everything is very clean. The cooked breakfast was quite nice. The hotel is located up a hill from the town center and overlooks a beautiful wild area toward the river. Be sure to take a walk along the river if you stay in Durham.

Sensational View – Cool Design – Love the Honesty Bar – Entertaining Staff. First time I have had a drink with a humble, yet famous footballer. Whisky in the room was a nice touch – Jelly Beans in the room were cool. Love the Kimono Robes. Definitely return to this “secret Sensation” in Durham

What a great little hotel in a brilliant location. So much value for money, the manager and chef was brilliant and made us feel more than welcome. The decor throughout is as stunning as the views from the bedroom window. We had the gala room with a roll top bath looking straight out to the cathedral. Can’t wait to go again.
